Community Strengthening & Mental Health Program
The COVID-19 pandemic led to prolonged social isolation, causing the Chin-Myanmar community to struggle with readjusting to social connections and gatherings. To combat this, our project—funded by the Brimbank City Council—targets support for Burmese/Chin elderly and senior groups.
Our initiative provides opportunities for socialization, aiming to reduce loneliness, stress, and isolation while promoting mental health and wellbeing. Through community engagement, participants can reconnect with others, foster meaningful relationships, and enhance their overall quality of life.
The project comprises various activities, including:
➢ Bowling Day
➢ BBQ Cookout
➢ Outing trips
These events facilitate elderly community members to:
➢ Develop sustained connections through in-person meetings
➢ Build stronger, healthier relationships with friends
➢ Enhance social participation and community cohesion
➢ Improve mental health and wellbeing outcomes
Ultimately, our project strives to revitalize social connections and community engagement, supporting the wellbeing and quality of life of Burmese/Chin elderly and senior groups.
