The Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) program is crucial for Chin Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) due to the following reasons:

➢ Prevention of Water-Borne Diseases: IDPs are highly vulnerable to water-borne diseases like cholera, diarrhea, and dysentery. Access to safe water, sanitation facilities, and hygiene practices can significantly reduce the risk of these diseases.
➢ Protection of Human Dignity: Adequate sanitation facilities and hygiene practices help maintain human dignity, particularly for women and girls.
➢ Reducing Mortality Rates: Improved WASH conditions can significantly reduce mortality rates, especially among children under the age of five.
➢ Enhancing Livelihoods: Access to safe water and sanitation facilities can improve livelihoods by reducing the time spent on collecting water and caring for sick family members.

How CMCC Will Run the WASH Program in Chin State

CMCC (Chin-Myanmar Community Care) is committed implementing the WASH program in Chin State through the following strategies:

➢ Conducting WASH Assessments: CMCC will conduct thorough WASH assessments to identify the specific needs of Chin IDPs.
➢ Community Engagement: CMCC will engage with local communities to raise awareness about the importance of WASH practices and involve them in the program’s planning and implementation.
➢ Infrastructure Development: CMCC will construct or rehabilitate water sources, sanitation facilities, and hygiene infrastructure, such as latrines, showers, and handwashing stations.
➢ Hygiene Promotion: CMCC will promote hygiene practices through community-led total sanitation (CLTS) initiatives, hygiene education, and behavior change communication.
➢ Capacity Building: CMCC will build the capacity of local communities, including WASH committee members, water operators, and hygiene promoters, to manage and maintain WASH infrastructure and practices.
➢ Monitoring and Evaluation: CMCC will regularly monitor and evaluate the WASH program’s progress, impact, and sustainability to ensure that it meets the needs of Chin IDPs.

By implementing the WASH program in Chin State, CMCC aims to improve the health, dignity, and livelihoods of Chin IDPs, ultimately contributing to their overall well-being and resilience.
